If for some reasons DXWnd doesn't work with your Vista, try the following:

1) Run as admin. Right click DXWnd->Run as administrator.
2) Run using Windows XP Service Pack 2 Compatibility. Right click DXWnd->Properties->Compatibility->Tick Run this program in compatibility mode for:->Windows XP Service Pack 2->OK.

Should work then.
